The National Blood Transfusion Centre has made a request from the general public to donate blood. The request is being made as the amount of blood stored each year has reduced due to certain diseases like Dengue.
According to the Director General at the Centre, Dr. Rukshan Bellana, the rate of donation of blood reduces during the period from January to April. As a result, there is possibility for a shortage of blood. He emphasised that blood donors must come forward to avoid a situation of this nature.
Dr. Bellana further noted that those who are interested could donate blood by visiting the nearest Hospital’s Blood Centre or the Narahenpita National Blood Transfusion Centre.
