PM says development of Colombo is not limited to one area or one group

Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the development of capital city of Colombo is not limited to one area or one group of people and the city should be developed as a whole.

He said the urbanization of the city is undergoing fast to strengthen the low income people as well as the middle class and the development will be accelerated in the future and not slow down.

“One of our goals is to develop the entire Colombo and suburbs as a megapolis. In order to develop the city we need to develop Colombo North and Colombo Central. Some areas in these parts of the city are still in a sad condition. Developing just one part of the city does not enhance the city. We need to develop every part of the city,” he said.

The Prime Minister was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Kelimandala Children’s Park for special needs children and the walking path in Boralesgamuwa constructed under the Weras Ganga Storm Water Drainage & Environment Improvement Project.

This children’s park was constructed by the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation with the guidance of the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development.

This is considered as the first children’s park in Sri Lanka for children with special needs. There are 21 different type of activities designed for the disabled children. Children who have special needs can participate in collective activities to the maximum extent possible under special security.

Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka and several other Ministers participated in the opening of the children’s park.
