Maithripala Sirisena has instructed IGP Pujith Jayasundara to hold an impartial comprehensive inquiry into a complaint lodged by a female principal alleging the Chief Minister of Uva Province Chamara Sampath Dissanayake of harassment by forcing her to kneel down before him.
In order to conduct an impartial inquiry, the President has instructed the Uva Province Governor to take over the functions of the Provincial Education Ministry.
The President has also instructed the IGP to speedily take any legal action recommended in the report of the impartial investigation.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister of the Uva Province Chamara Sampath Dassanayake says that he has resigned from the post of the Provincial Education Minister. The letter of resignation has been directed to the Governor, he said.
