A discussion was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, at the Polonnaruwa Divisional Secretariat on Sunday to review the progress of the programs implemented to alleviate the problems faced by the farmers in the Polonnaruwa District due to adverse weather.
The progress of the several programs implemented by the government to provide relief to the farmers affected by the recent severe drought was reviewed as well as solutions for those problems were discussed at the meeting.
The government has begun to distribute dry rations and drinking water to the farmers.
The officials including the Polonnaruwa District Secretary, Director of Agriculture and Director of Irrigation and the representatives of the Farmers’ Organizations participated in this meeting.
