An 82-year-old inmate from the Mahara prison had died upon admission to the Ragama hospital. He had been admitted to Ragama Hospital over a sudden illness.
The Department of prisons said that a posthumous PCR test revealed that he had been infected with Covid-19 .
Newswire reported that the deceased is reportedly a cancer patient who had been under treatment at the Welikada prison hospital.
