Psychiatrists Union denies Police claims on drugs inducing violent behaviour

Following the unrest at the Mahara Prison, Police investigation revealed that a number of inmates had behaved in an unruly manner after abusing a stock of drug used for psychiatric treatment kept at the prison hospital.

Issuing a statement, the Sri Lanka College of Psychiatrists said none of these drugs are responsible for violent or aggressive behavior and in fact it promotes calmness and causes mild drowsiness.
