Rate of passports obtained daily on the rise

There has been an increase in the rate of passports obtained under the one-day service, by about 500, the Department of Immigration and Emigration said.

Previously, on average, around 1000 applications were received by the Immigration Department, daily to obtain passports under the one-day service.

However, the number of applications to obtain passports, under the one-day service has exceeded 1500 on a daily basis, following the easing of the island-wide quarantine curfew, the Department of Immigration and Emigration noted.

Accordingly, 12,158 people have obtained passport services under the one-day service from the Colombo Head Office, during the last 10-days.

During the said period, 11,242 people had applied for passports through the normal service, the Department of Immigration and Emigration added.

In addition, 10,145 people have obtained services from the Matara, Kandy, Vavuniya, and Kurunegala regional offices in the past 10 days alone.
