Special unit to oversee the progress on implementation of Budget proposals

Sri Lanka’s Minister of Finance Mangala Samaraweera says a special unit will be stablished under the Finance Ministry to oversee the progress on implementation of budget proposals.

Attending a budget seminar held in Colombo on Friday Minister Samaraweera said a special mechanism will be put in place to monitor the progress of the development activities mentioned in the budget proposals.

The post budget press conference was held today along with State Minister Eran Wickramaratne, Senior Adviser Mano Tittawella and the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga.

The Minister said in the seventies the country went back to a socialist mindset and now time has come Sri Lanka to move forward and compete with the world. “Competition brings success,” he said.

The Minister said the government has to give everyone a helping hand and this budget is about helping the entrepreneurial spirit of the Sri Lankan people.

“We have invested heavily this time, on education, IT, skills training, innovation, artistes, because we believe it is the right way,” the Minister said.

Minister Samaraweera also attended a panel discussion to answer the questions raised at the event.
