Two Indian nationals smuggling gold worth Rs. 4 million arrested at Sri Lanka’s Colombo airport

Sri Lanka Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake has arrested two Indian nationals arrived from Dubai today (28) smuggling around Rs. 4 million worth gold biscuits into the country.

Police said that the suspects were 43 and 29 years old and said to be textile businessmen from Dubai trading between Sri Lanka and Malaysia and had been involved in the gold smuggling business.

According to the police, the two Indians have arrived at the airport aboard a FlyDubai FZ-551 flight and were waiting to board a flight to Malaysia. Acting on information received the police officers have arrested the two Indian nationals and upon search found the gold biscuits weighing 432 grams carefully wrapped in carbon paper and hidden in a purse in their possession.

The suspects are to be handed over to the Sri Lanka Customs Department.
