Vavuniya University, the 17th State University of Sri Lanka, was declared open by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa

Vavuniya University, the 17th State University of Sri Lanka, was declared open by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today.

The University was previously attached to the Jaffna University as the Vavuniya Campus which was abolished following the issuing of a Gazette notification in June 2021.

Declaring open the Vavuniya University, President Rajapaksa said “this enhances the access of higher education to students opening up opportunities for greater integration of our people and our culture across the nation.”

The new university has been established for the purpose of providing, promoting, and developing higher education in the fields of Business Studies, Applied Sciences, and Technology Studies.

The Vavuniya University will develop courses connected to a wide range of related disciplines with the aim of providing the students with a well-groomed education with the potential to develop a specialization in chosen disciplines.
