The government has decided to closely monitor and crackdown on hate speech being promoted on social media.
“All communal hate speech posts via social media would be curbed. One of decision made at today’s special ministerial meeting,” Minister of National Coexistence Dialogue and Official Languages, Mano Ganesan said in a Tweet.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundera has directed the police to act against individual who makes statements promoting hate speech.
Police have reportedly been given the power to initiate legal action against anyone promoting hate speech on social media.
