Disrupting the System

BY Shakeel Jurangpathy

They said that slavery was abolished almost 200 years ago. They said that we are now free to live our lives as we please. Yet, we wake up every morning at a specific time, brush our teeth, have our breakfast and head off to work to be present by 9.00 a.m. We wear a shirt and a tie and work for almost 8 hours. We stand up to greet the people we work for when they walk through the front door, given a lunch break because it helps increase our work pace. And at the end of the month, we are given money for what we think is worth our time and energy and we are supposed to be grateful for it.And then we head back home only to repeat the same thing the next day and the next day and the next day until old age finally catches up or death ultimately takes us. WHERE IS OUR LEGACY?Society expects us to follow a conventional career. Join a promising company and make money for someone else?A cliché lifestyle. The more you think about it the more you will start to realize that you would always be making someone else more successful, richer and happier than you. But we’ve been told that this is the safest path to choose.

From time to time, you will come across that one child who is looking at the sky through the window of his classroom wondering what it feels like to fly, what it feels to be free and to explore the unexplored. And then you need to ask that one question. Will this child be chained to a desk and a chair or will he be the one who finally breaks out?

Many have, and succeeded………

She was a victim of sexual assault when she was just 09 years old, shunned by most of her family members, and even as a woman she was told that she was unfitting to be on television as a presenter. An alluring fact is that these people have one thing in common. They were once the greatest failures but never gave up. Never gave in even after what society had to say about them. But always ready to take the risk and live the unconventional dream. We think of failure as the enemy of success. But it isn’t. You can be discouraged by failure or you can learn from it, so go ahead and make mistakes. Because that’s where you will find success. If you are not willing to take the risk, you will have to settle for the ordinary.

Most people would be happy about the career they chose. But this is for those who are stuck in a dead end job knowing that they have the capability to do something more. To create a new profession and be someone who will inspire and change the world. But given the state the world is in today, it’s going to take a lot of hard work and commitment. And that’s okay. If you have a dream then you’ve already taken the first step to success instead of wondering “What if”.

A personal assistant by profession, but her heart and feet are drawn to the alluring music and mystifying movement of ballet.

A university student graduating with a degree in Business Management with an aspiring career ahead of him, yet his mind and philosophical knowledge intrigued by the poetic works of William Shakespeare.

And a 10 year old boy seated in class listening to his teacher talks about the history of the world, still he wonders when he will make his mark in history when he travels across the world through uncharted waters and unexplored land in search of his adventure.
