State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics, and COVID Disease Control Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle has requested the government to extend the currently imposed lockdown for an additional two weeks. She noted that this was her personal opinion on the matter.
Using the research conducted by the Head of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine of the Sri Jayewardenepura University Professor Neelika Malavige she pointed out there is a 14% increase in Covid-19 patients within the Colombo District, while the figure is probably at least 9 times higher in the community.
“Due to the prevalent increase in the Delta variant of the coronavirus, there is no telling how many positive patients there might be at present,” State Minister Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle stated.
