‘Executive Presidency should not be abolished’

Former Speaker of House Parliamentarian Chamal Rajapaksa says the Executive Presidency should not be abolished.

Speaking to media in Kandy MP Rajapaksa said the abolishment of the Executive Presidency will disrupt all units within the country.

MP Rajapaksa stated the power of the Executive President to make prompt and individual decisions played a vital role, especially based on decisions regarding development projects launched within the country.

The Parliamentarian stressed the 30 year long conflict with the LTTE was brought to an end as a result of the power of an Executive President.

MP Chamal Rajapaksa said his personal stance is that as the country is currently unstable the Executive Presidency should not be abolished under such circumstances.
