Indian national arrested at Sri Lanka’s Colombo airport smuggling gold

Officials of the Police Narcotic Bureau at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at Katunayake have arrested an Indian citizen, who had arrived in Sri Lanka from Dubai this morning, when he attempted to smuggle 1 kilogram of gold.

The 48 year old Indian national had carefully concealed the block of gold in his luggage.

The gold stock is estimated to be worth Rs. 5 million, the officials said.

The suspect has been handed over to the Sri Lanka Customs for further investigations.

Meanwhile, the Police Narcotic Bureau at the BIA arrested a Nigerian woman with a hauls of over 2.28 kilograms of crystal meth, also known as ‘ice’ yesterday.

The contraband worth Rs. 20 million was concealed in the travel bag of the 21 year old suspect. She was questioned and scheduled to be produced in court.
