The token system at fuel stations is currently not being implemented by the Ministry of Energy, Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.
He said initially the token system was introduced on the advice of the Security Council specifically to reduce the long queues that were seen on the 23rd and 24th of June.
“The token system was introduced to relieve the public from standing in queues and to inform them to visit the fuel station once the fuel had been obtained on the 11th or 15th of July. The system was launched just for those few days only,” he said.
The Minister pointed out that, however, it was not implemented thereafter and has now become a business.
Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that the system to issue tokens at fuel stations at present is being done without the involvement of the Ministry of Energy.
Despite the Minister denying the continuation of the Token system, several fuel stations are still providing tokens for people waiting in queue to obtain fuel. (NewsWire)
