Remand extended for two of the nine suspects arrested for the abduction and murder of 11 youths until 31 July when the suspects were produced before the court Thursday.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered the former Naval Intelligence wing members Kasthurige Gamini and Thushara Mendis who are the 8th and 9th accused respectively, to be remanded until 31 July.
Kasthurige Gamini and Thushara Mendis have been accused of aiding the other suspects to take the bodies of the 11 youth out of the detention facility at the Trincomalee Navy camp.
The Magistrate ordered the Criminal Investigations Department to continue investigations into the incident and report the progress on the 31st of this month.
The Criminal Investigation Department arrested nine suspects including former Naval Media Spokesperson Commodore DKP Dassanayake for aiding and abetting the abduction and murder of 11 youth in 2008 and 2009.
Some of the suspects including former Naval Media Spokesman Commodore D.K.P. Dassanayake have been released on bail. The main suspect former Lieutenant Commander Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi however, is absconding.
