Sri Lanka Navy arrests 13 Indian fishermen for poaching in island’s waters

Sri Lanka Navy has arrested 13 Indian fishermen along with 3 fishing trawlers for trespassing into Sri Lankan territorial waters and engaging in illegal fishing.

Naval personnel on board a Fast Attack Craft attached to the Northern Naval Command on routine patrol apprehended the 13 Indian fishermen along with the fishing trawlers for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters north and west of Delft Island in the early hours of Thursday (02 November 2017).

The arrested fishermen were brought to the naval base SLNS Uttara in Kankasanthurai and subsequently handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director of Jaffna for legal action. The seized trawlers and fishing gear were retained at SLNS Elara in Karainagar.
