Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena has issued a gazette proroguing Parliament with effect from midnight today until May 8.
According to the Extraordinary Gazette Notification, issued by the Secretary to the President Austin Fernando, the Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has proclaimed that the parliament will be prorogued with effect from midnight Thursday, 12th April.
The next session of the Parliament will commence of 8th May.
The President has made the decision to prorogue the parliament by virtue of the powers vested in him by Article 70 of the Constitution.
