Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena has left for Seychelles for a three-day official visit from October 8 -10.
The President has left the Bandaranaike International Airport at Katunayake at around 2.10 am today (08). President Sirisena was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Jayanthi Sirisena and a high level delegation.
President Sirisena will be visiting Seychelles on an invitation extended to him by President Danny Faure in March last year, during President Faure’s working visit to Sri Lanka.
The state ceremony to welcome the President is scheduled to take place in the Presidential Palace this afternoon.
During his visit, President Sirisena will hold bilateral talks with the President and the Vice-President of Seychelles. The President is also scheduled to meet the Sri Lankans living in the country.
During the President Sirisena’s visit, the discussions will focus on bilateral relations in health, education, tourism, fisheries and maritime security.
Sri Lanka and Seychelles marks exactly 30 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and this visit is likely to pave the way to further cooperation between the two Indian Ocean neighbors.
The formal Diplomatic Relations between the two countries were established on 3 October 1988.
