Heroin stock found in vehicle abandoned on expressway

Police have found a parcel containing heroin in a car that had been abandoned on the Southern Expressway. The police said the car was speeding on the Southern Expressway towards Matara exceeding the speed limit at Kaduwela at around 3.00 pm Tuesday. However, the car was found later abandoned on the expressway near the 6.9 R post, the police said. Upon searching the vehicle, police officers found a parcel containing 56g and 100mg of heroin inside the car, which was handed over to the Athurugiriya Police Station. The Athurugiriya Police is conducting further investigations to arrest the suspects tracing through the Vehicle Registration Number.

Train crash in South Africa : bodies burnt beyond recognition

South African passenger train has caught fire after colliding with a truck, rescue workers state that at least 18 were killed while injuring 268. Free State Health Department spokesman Mondli Mvambi has stated that some of the bodies were “burnt beyond recognition”. According to a video footage that caught the crash, the fire blazed through at least one carriage, near a crushed car and an overturned truck, while evacuated passengers were seen standing on the roadside with luggage. A passenger has explained that the collision occurred near Kroonstad city in Free State province, after the truck failed to stop at a crossing. It was further noted that around 700 people were on the train when it was hit by the truck.

Discovery of firearms in Gampaha vehicle – suspects to be produced in court

Three T-56 firearms were discovered last month in a car that was suspiciously parked in Gampaha. Two suspects were arrested in connection to the incident. According to the police, a person who was involved in guaranteeing the rent of the car, and the individual who gave supportive assistance to rent the car, were arrested as suspects. The suspects aged 27 and 22 are residents of Ayagama, Innakanda and Nikaweratiya, Galagedara. They are to be produced before Gampaha Magistrate Court today, November 13. The vehicle was parked near the Gampaha Hospital at 5.30 a.m. on October 2.

Five injured in Elpitiya shooting

A shooting incident in Batapola, Elpitiya a short while ago has injured five people. The five injured individuals were travelling in a car when they got shot at by two armed gunmen on a motorcycle. Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekera stated that the injured have been hospitalised.
