Parliament to make it mandatory for ministers to respond over ministries under COPE investigations

The parliament has decided to make it mandatory for ministers to make submissions to the chamber, when their relevant ministries are involved in a COPE investigation. Parliamentary General Secretary, Dhammika Dassanayake, said that through this amendment, ministers will be required to list out the action that should be taken against such institutions that are charged with malpractices, within a period of eight weeks.

Oman, Sri Lanka discuss strengthening inter-parliamentary diplomatic ties

A delegation from the Sultanate of Oman led by Dr Yahya Mahfoodh Al Manthri, Chairman of the State Council (Speaker) arrived at the Parliament Tuesday on the invitation of the Speaker, Karu Jayasuriya. The Omani delegation comprised Members of the State Council of Oman, Abdullah Said Al Saifi, Dr (Ms) Muna Ahmed Al Saadoon, Dr Said Mubarak Al Muharrami, Dr Ismail Saleh Al Aghbari, Ms Sabah Bint Mohamed Al Bahlani and high-level officials. Ministers Eran Wickramaratne, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Faizal Cassim and Secretary-General of Parliament Dhammika Dassanayake joined with Speaker, Karu Jayasuriya for discussions with the Oman delegation.
