Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that although during the past two and a half years, the United National Party (UNP) within the unity government has done a massive task for the village, no government money was spent on publicizing them.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe pointed out that this work has been done through education, road systems, temples, health sectors and development projects.
He made this statement at a convention held at the UNP headquarters Sirikotha yesterday to enlighten the party organizers and the candidates for the upcoming local government election on the work done by the party within the unity government during the last two and half years.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe instructed all electoral organizers of the UNP to lead the forthcoming Local Government election as an example to the candidates of other parties by completely adhering to the election laws.
He also gave instructions on how to organize election activities.
The Prime Minister instructed the organizers to go from house to house in the villages and explain to the residents what the party has done for them and try to obtain their vote for the party under the new electoral system.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe stressed that he would take the responsibility of developing the local government bodies that would be won by the UNP while the organizers will be held accountable for any local governments the party is unable to win.
The Prime Minister stressed that the electoral organizers are responsible for the losing institutions and a decision would be made regarding them.
