US Embassy in Colombo warns more attacks in Sri Lanka possible this weekend

The United States embassy in Colombo warned the American citizens to remain vigilant and avoid large crowds and places of worship as additional attacks may occur, especially during the weekend starting today, April 26th through Sunday, April 28th.

The Embassy issuing a statement to American citizens Thursday said Following the bombings on Sunday, April 21, Sri Lankan authorities continue to pursue leads related to the attacks.

“Sri Lankan authorities are reporting that additional attacks targeting places of worship may occur,” the statement said.

“Terrorist groups continue plotting possible attacks in Sri Lanka. Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, government facilities, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, parks, major sporting and cultural events, educational institutions, airports, hospitals, and other public areas,” the warning said.

It asked the travellers to bee prepared for possible checkpoints, road closures, and ongoing searches of people, vehicles, and other items of interest.

The warning asked the visitors to be aware of their surroundings and stay alert in locations frequented by tourists. It said to review the personal security plans and follow the instructions of local authorities.
