The Group of 16 SLFP MPs who announced their decision to quit the government have been informed that they are not welcome by the Joint Opposition to join them.
The Group of 16 has therefore claimed they would sit in the opposition seats in parliament as members of the SLFP.
Meanwhile, former President MP Mahinda Rajapaksa has reportedly informed the Group of 16 that he was not interested in building the SLFP and that the Group could do so if they so wished. Rajapapksa has wished them the very best in the endevor.
According to a website operated by MP Wimal Weerawansa, Rajapaksa has also communicated to the Group of 16 that his intentions were to develop the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
