59 MPs named in the Parliament unrest report

The Committee appointed to investigate the unrest reported within Parliament on the 14th, 15th and 16th of November has recommended that action should be taken against 59 Parliamentarians in connection to the incident.

Referring to the report compiled by the Committee the BBC Sinhala Service reported charges are levelled against 54 Parliamentarians of the United People’s Freedom Alliance, four United National Party Parliamentarians and one JVP Parliamentarian.

MP Prasanna Ranaweera has been charged with 12 offences followed by Parliamentarians Padma Udayashantha and Johnston Fernando.

The BBC said UPFA MPs Dilum Amunugama, Ananda Aluthgamage, Indika Anurudda, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Arundika Fernando, Niroshan Premaratne, Nishantha Muthuhettigama and Ranjith Soysa are among those named in the report.

Meanwhile charges were also levelled against UNP Parliamentarians Palitha Thevarapperuma and Ranjan Ramanayake in the report.

The report compiled by the Committee headed by Deputy Speaker of House Ananda Kumarasiri is due to be tabled before the Attorney General for further action.
