AG to appoint three-member committee to study LG Election procedures

The Attorney General’s Department has taken steps to appoint a three-member committee comprising of lawyers, to look into the legal procedures of the Local Government Elections.

Attorney General, Jayantha Jayasuriya says that the court case pertaining to the Local Government Elections, which is filed at the Appeals Court, will be analysed by the newly-appointed committee.

The Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils said that it has made submissions to obtain the AG’s advice, in keeping with the gazette notification issued in 2015.

Secretary to the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils said, that the Attorney General will appear before the Appeals Court on the 14th of next month, following the interim order issued on the Delimitation Gazette Notification.
