The Colombo Crimes Division informed Court that they have sought the advice of the Attorney General on future steps that should be taken pertaining to the unrest at the premises of the Ceylon Petroleum Cooperation in Dematagoda on the 28th of October.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne heard the petition filed by Colombo Municipal Councillor Kulathissa Geeganage, claiming he was assaulted by Minister Arjuna Ranatunga, on the day of the unrest at the entrance to CEYPETCO.
The CCD informed Court that CCTV footage helped determine that Minister Ranatunga did not assault the Councillor.
However the CCD stated that due to medical reports indicating an assault on Geeganage, further investigations will continue.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate accordingly informed the CCD to obtain the advice of the Attorney General promptly in order to take further action.
The case will be taken up for hearing once again on the 1st of March. Meanwhile the Police Sergeant of Minister Arjuna Ranatunga’s security detail, who was arrested over the shooting at the Ceylon Petroleum Cooperation in Dematagoda, was further remanded till the 15th of February.
