Court order on UNP protest in Colombo

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has issued an injunction order preventing UNP protesters from causing an inconvenience to the public, disturbing the peace and also them from entering the premises of any public institutions within today (30).

The court order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage following a request made by Cinnamon Gardens Police.

The United National Party (UNP) has organized a protest rally in Colombo today against the appointment of a new Prime Minister by President Maithripala Sirisena.

Police informed the court that intelligence has been gathered alleging that the protest planned by the UNP could lead to incidents that would disturb the peace.

Therefore police requested that a court order be issued prohibiting the protestors from causing an inconvenience to the public, disturbing the peace and also barring them from entering the premises of any government institution.

The request was accepted by the court and the aforementioned injunction order was issued.
