One of Sri Lanka’s fastest ever youth sprinters, Errol Knower passed away last night.
ECL has he was wont to be known to his classmates was a person who touched so many from a kaleidoscopic variety of persons. Errol was at ease with top brass, seasoned corporates, friends and especially with the less fortunates of our society.
A top athlete who ran his way through so many records. His passion for Rock music was legendary as was his ability to forge Excuse Letters to Koti Wilson from my Mother explaining why I had missed the last few classes the previous day!
Errol encouraged Akram Cader to be part of the athletic team so we could all have extra time off ostensibly for training! Akram was cajoled into the shot putt event; Errol had me in a “B” team. Training happened in my brothers bedroom which had a good stock of Rock music records! At times Errol was the despair of Mr N M Perera our master in charge of Athletics. But Errol always delivered.
Errol was not only a natural athlete. Errol was a natural friend in every sense of the word – a loving sensitive and carefree soul.
