Speaker of the Iran Parliament Ali Larijani and a 36- member delegation arrived in Sri Lanka on Wednesday on a two-day official visit on an invitation extended by his Sri Lankan counterpart Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
Larijani, who was in Vietnam at the head of parliamentary delegation to boost bilateral parliamentary cooperation, left Hanoi for Colombo on Wednesday and arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday evening on a special Iranian flight.
State Minister of National Integration and Reconciliation A. H. M. Fowzie and Iranian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Mohammed Zaeri Amirani welcomed the Iranian Speaker at the airport.
The Iranian speaker and his delegation are undertaking the visit in order to hold talks with senior Sri Lankan political officials. He is scheduled to engage in bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and other high level officials.
He is also is expected to take a tour of Parliament during his visit today.
