Eleven people including underworld leader Makandure Madush Singer Amal Perera, who were arrested last month by Dubai police are to be deported to Sri Lanka soon, according to sources.
Dubai authorities arrested 31 Sri Lankans attending a party which involved drugs with Makandure Madush in Dubai on 4th February. Several leading underworld figures and Sri Lankan celebrities including singer Amal Perera and his son Nadeemal Perera were among the arrested.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Najim Mohamed Imran alias Kanjipani Imran, Anushka Kaushal alias Janga, Amila Sampath Sepala Ratnayake and Anderson Ferdinanders arrived in the island this morning after they were deported from Dubai.
Upon their arrival at the BIA, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had arrested Kanjipani Imran and others for further questioning.
Nadeemal Perera and a prison officer Lalith Kumara were deported on Monday and they returned to the island yesterday.
Kanjipani Imran and Makandure Madush are accused of a number of serious crimes including distributing drugs in Sri Lanka.
Police say that the suspects are being interrogated at length by the Colombo Crimes Division.
Meanwhile, information has been received that deported prison officer Lalith Kumara is involved in the attack on the prison bus in Kalutara in February 2017. The prison bus shooting killed two prison officers and five inmates including a top underworld leader Aruna Damith Udayanga alias ‘Samayan’.
Police say Lalith Kumara has close relationships with Makandure Madush, who was suspected to have instigated the attack on his rival.
Lalith Kumara was produced before the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court today and the court allowed the Colombo Crime Division to detain him for 24 hours for questioning.
