A total of 550 metric tons of kerosene is sold on a daily basis at present, Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila revealed.
He said the demand for kerosene is twice as higher than earlier in comparison to previous times.
Addressing the media yesterday, the Minister highlighted three main reasons for the high demand for kerosene.
He said apart from large scale factory machines, burners, and boats, buses also use kerosene as it is more profitable than using diesel.
People have commenced purchasing kerosene as an alternative to the country’s frequent domestic gas shortage.
And finally, people had panic bought kerosene for lamps and burners in fear of electricity supply disruptions as a result of the protest staged by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) employees, he added.
