Nearly 100 people hospitalized due to food poisoning in Jaffna

Nearly 100 people had been admitted to the Kayts Hospital in Jaffna due to food poisoning after consuming a meal at a religious event, the Police said.

Police said 98 people fell sick after eating the food given at a function held at St. Anthony’s Church at a fishery village in Malenechmunai, Jaffna Saturday.

According to the place around 700 people participated in the event and everyone attending the event had received the food.

After the meal, 53 adults and 45 children suffered from diarrhea and vomiting Saturday night and this morning and received treatment form Kayts Hospital Sunday, the police said.

The Police and Public Health Inspectors are investigating the incident.
