Although fuel prices have been increased in the local market following the escalation of world oil prices, no decision has been taken to increase charges levied for a unit of electricity, Power and Renewable Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.
He assured that the government will continue to supply electricity to consumers at concessionary rates.
According to the Minister, electricity is being supplied to nearly half of the six million electricity consumers at a rate below the production cost.
The Minister was speaking during an inspection tour of the first local solar panel production factory at the Katunayake Investment Zone.
Minister Siyambalapitiya said the Government is making an effort to manage price fluctuations in the world market, while ensuring minimum economic burden on the people.
“Our endeavor is to provide maximum relief to the people,” he said.
