There has no been reason to impose a lockdown during the long weekend, the public is requested to refrain from gathering in large numbers and organising large gatherings, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva told the media.

He further said that if a surge of Covid-19 cases is detected from a certain areas, necessary measures will be taken to the area.

Professor Neelika Malabuge urged the public to wear facemasks to prevent the spread of the virus.

A new strain has been identified in the country and is spreading fast, more details will be announced in the future, officials stated.
