The SLPP (Phottouwa party) is currently facing an internal crisis over the selecting a candidate for the next presidential election.
Basil Rajapaksa and his group have objected to moves by former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to carry out an image building campaign targeting the next presidential election.
However, JO MP Namal Rajapaksa has told the media that the decision on the party’s presidential candidate would be made by former President MP Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is the leader of the Pohottuwa party.
