President condemns mob attack on MTV/MBC Head Office

President Maithripala Sirisena has condemned mob attack on the Sirasa Head Office.

The Head of State says he and his government “will not stand for any such acts against the media.”

‘The world’s largest body of Public Media Broadcasters’ issued a statement condemning the incident yesterday (April 5th).

“High-quality journalism is at the heart of any informed democracy. This is wholly unacceptable and we will be monitoring developments closely” – Sally-Ann Wilson – CEO of PMA

The Free Media Movement also commented on the incident and said “Someone could say that this is not a serious incident, but such incidents can turn into serious incidents.”

Soon after the vote on the No Confidence concluded, a bit after 10 p.m. on the 4th of April 2018, the MTV/MBC head office was mobbed. UNP Colombo Municipal Councilor Kithsiri Rajapaksa was seen directing the mob.
