Purpose of the no-confidence motion is to dissolve the national government – Minister

The Joint Opposition has brought a no-confidence motion (NCM) to disrupt the government of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and dissolve it, says State Minister of Power and Energy, Ajith P. Perera.

The State Minister says that, the joint opposition has brought the NCM to disrupt the attempts by the government to fulfill the promises made by the good governance government, such as the proposal to set up an anti-Corruption High Court, which is due to be debated in Parliament on the day after the NCM debate.

State Minister Ajith P. Perera said that the joint opposition is scared of the Act and fear that the cases against them will be tried and finished quickly if the act passed in parliament.

Minister Ajith P. Perera made these remarks at a media briefing held at the UNP headquarters Sirikotha on Sunday (01).

He further said that all parties in the government are together ready to defeat the no-confidence motion that has been brought against the government of the President Maithripala Sirisena.

State Minister claimed that the government ministers have no intention of supporting this futile exercise since there is no merit in it.

He said two ministers are expecting to join the Joint Opposition through the NCM targeting the next election since they cannot contest the next elections either from the United National party (UNP) or the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

“Just days before the last election, Samurdhi allowance was suspended for two months. Stopped the elders’ allowance. It is clear these acts were made by design. Two years on one side and now they are trying to jump to the other side,” State Minister Perera pointed out.

Due to the defeat at the Local Government election, we will unite and rectifying our shortcomings will bring the necessary laws to punish the corrupt through the Special Judiciary Act,” he said.

“We will defeat the No-confidence motion and reorganize our party soon with necessary reforms. The government will move forward with a new life,” the Minister asserted.
