Zimbabwe’s leading party is set to begin impeachment proceedings against President Mugabe, on charges he allowed his wife to usurp constitutional power.
The motion will be presented in parliament today, November 21.
“The process could take as little as two days to complete, and President Mugabe could be removed by Wednesday (Nov 22),” said a senior party member.
A deadline was given to the president to resign from his position yesterday, Nov 20.
According to military leaders, they had planned a “road map” for Mugabe’s future, and that the ousted former vice-president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, would return to the country soon.
The two potential successors to the ageing president were Grace Mugabe and Emmerson Mnangagwa.
