School transport service will be back to normal by Monday: Minister

We reopened schools on Monday (25) and the number of students and teachers coming to schools is gradually increasing.

Around 80% of teachers reported for duties in schools by yesterday, while students’ presence was seen around 70%.

The Ministry held discussions with several parties, such as the officials from the school transport sector and fuel supplying entities, to ease the transporting issues of students and teachers. The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has agreed to provide fuel for school vans and private bus owners for two days, the Minister said.

Moreover, the Minister said that action will be taken to reduce the school holidays in order to cover the syllabi.
