Sri Lanka CID summons BBC journalist over a tweet – report

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of Sri Lanka police has summoned Sri Lankan correspondent at BBC news to record a statement over a tweet, a local media report said.

The Colombo Gazette reported that BBC journalist Azzam Ameen has been asked to appear before the CID tomorrow to record a statement.

According to the report Ameen had yesterday retweeted a tweet which appeared on the official twitter account of the President’s Media Division where the President was asked how he intends to implement some of his proposals made in Parliament.

“You are a wonderful speaker. But how do you ensure they turn into action. Show by doing!” Advice to President Sirisena from his own @PMDNewsGov,” Ameen had tweeted.

Later the President’s Media Division tweeted saying that its account had been briefly compromised and it is being investigated. “It seems for a brief moment the @PMDNewsGov twitter was compromised. The account has now been recovered and PMD is investigating the matter,” the PMD News tweeted.
