Sri Lanka Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara says steps have been taken to expand the activities of the Cyber Crimes Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department.
IGP Jayasundera says there has been an increase in the number of crimes committed online using mobile phones and computers and as a result the number of victims of cybercrimes has also increased.
Speaking to media, IGP Pujith Jayasundara said that some people are involved in cybercrimes intentionally but it is also regrettable that some people have become victims unknowingly.
He said the Cyber Crime Unit has been established within the Criminal Investigations Department to investigate these cybercrimes and measures will be taken to further broaden the services provided by the unit to the public. Accordingly sub units will be established in main in all nine provinces of the island, the IGP said.
