State Minister Palitha Range Bandara’s son granted bail

Yashoda Range Bandara, the 25-year-old son of State Minister Palitha Range Bandara, who was arrested by the Police for driving under the influence and causing an accident and subsequently remanded, has been granted bail.

The Chilaw Magistrate’s Court released Yashoda Range Bandara on a personal surety of Rs. 50,000. His driver’s license was also confiscated by the court and he was ordered not to drive until the end of the case.

His lawyers told court that the house damaged by the accident will be repaired by the defendant.

The suspect, who was injured in the accident was brought from the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital in an ambulance to the Magistrate’s Court, and the Magistrate examined the suspect in the ambulance.

Yashoda Range Bandara, media secretary of the Ministry Irrigation and Water Resources Management, driving a ministry vehicle, lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road ramming into a house at Kottapitiya in Chilaw in the wee hours of June 6. He and his passenger Puttalam Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Anjana Sandaruwan suffered injuries.

He was arrested by officers of the Arachchikattuwa Police on June 8, on charges of drunk driving and misuse of public property, while receiving treatment at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital.

The case will be heard again on July 28.
