Suspect arrested for spreading fake news f cyber attacks on state institutions

A suspect was arrest by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for spreading false news via social media about a cyber-attack on several state institutions including the Presidential Secretariat, Police said.

The suspect had spread false information says the government failed to prevent the cyber attack after being informed by the chairman of a society called the ‘Sri Lanka Information and Technology.

The suspect has been identified as a 23-year-old individual of Udahamulla, the Police media spokesperson said.

He will be produced at the Colombo Chief Magistrate on Tuesday (08), while further investigations are being carried out into the incident.
