Suspects in abduction case against MP Hirunika Premachandra plead guilty

All suspects in the abduction case against the United National Front Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra except MP Premachandra pleaded guilty today to all the charges against them.

Hirunika Premachandra and eight others are charged over the alleged abduction of a youth in December 2015.

When the case was heard today before the Colombo High Court judge R. Gurusinha, the counsel representing Ms. Premachandra said his client is not pleading guilty and requested the court to fix the trial on a separate date.

The other eight suspects pleaded guilty and the Judge fixed the sentencing on 24th November.

The MP and her supporters are alleged of abducting a man identified as Amila Priyanga Amarasinghe on the 15th of December 2015 at a store in Dematagoda and taken in a ‘Defender’ vehicle belongs to the MP and assaulting him over a domestic dispute.

Ms. Premachandra has admitted that she had sent her personal ‘Defender’ vehicle with her supporters to the shop in Dematagoda where the man was employed in order to resolve the dispute. The Attorney General indicted the nine suspects in the Colombo High Court on 29 counts.
