The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police today informed the court that it has sought the advice of Attorney General on the threatening remarks made by the former UPFA Southern Provincial Council Minister D. V. Upul against the officers of the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID).
The former councilor, addressing a public gathering in Hambanthota on May 31, 2015, had allegedly threatened to stone to death the officers attached to the FCID once Mahinda Rajapaksa returned to power as the Prime Minister. DV Upul had made this statement in the presence of several UPFA parliamentarians.
The suspect is charged with criminal intimidation by his statement.
The suspect DV Upul has appeared before the court when the case filed by the CID in the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court was called today.
The CID told Court that the investigation had been completed and the report had been sent to the Attorney General.
Accordingly, the CID informed the court that the next step would be taken against the suspect on the advice of the Attorney General.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe Bandara ordered the case to be called again on 5th of April 2018.
The CID was ordered to report on the progress of the legal actions on that day.
