Government allocates over 1,000 acres for Dry Zone Rural Economic Development Aloe Vera Project

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal to provide lands on a long-term lease to Aura Lanka Herbals Limited for the ‘Dry Zone Rural Economic Development Aloe Vera Project’ where the company will manufacture aloe vera based herbal medicinal products for export.

The total investment for the is US$ 783 million, while the investor plans to invest US$ 300 million as the capital investment.

Nurseries will be set up for the production of Aloe Vera seedlings in 2000 acres in the Rajanganaya and Nochchiyagama Divisional Secretariat Divisions and 102,000 acres in the Anuradhapura District, while the plants produced by those nurseries the lands will be used for the cultivation of Aloe Vera.

It is proposed to involve families who own land on grants and licenses, as well as families that enjoy Government lands for cultivation under the project.

The resolution to provide nearly 66 acres of land to the company on a long-term lease basis for 30 years as per the provisions of the Crown Land Ordinance was tabled by the Ministers of Finance and Land was approved by the cabinet.

A factory, operating office premises and storage facilities will be constructed as approved.
