Sri Lanka’s inflation, as measured by the change in the Colombo Consumers’ Price Index (CCPI) increased to 4.5 percent in April 2019 from 4.3 percent in March 2019, the Department of Census and Statistics reported Wednesday.
The CCPI for all items marginally declined in April 2019 to 127.0 from 126.6 in March 2019. An increase in the index point by 0.31 percent was due to the expenditure value increase of Food items by 0.01 percent and increase of Non Food items by 0.30 percent.
The year-on-year (YoY) inflation of Food Group for the month of April 2019 was ‐0.9 percent and while that of Non‐food Group has increased to 6.8 percent in April during this period.
For the month of April 2019, on year to year basis, contribution to inflation by food commodities was -0.29 percent. The contribution of Non Food items was 4.81 percent.
The moving average inflation rate for the month of April 2019 remained unchanged from March at 4.1 percent.
