Vessels will not be granted passage to Negombo lagoon while fishing from Panadura to Negombo had been stopped with immediate effect as the MV XPress Pearl is sinking at its current position.
The ship is currently sinking after taking on water since yesterday (01), the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) stated.
As a result, a possible oil leak could spread as far as Dikowita and Negombo, the MEPA warned.
